The Snowy Darkness of Winter

The view we have when we look out our window. Since the temperatures are dropping into the negative thirties, this probably won't melt away until spring-time. It might fall off the trees, but snow is just a constant on the ground now.

This is what the house looks like covered in snow. It seems to fit in the North Pole, huh? I can't wait till he starts turning his Christmas lights on.

It's amazing how much snow those tiny branches can hold!

The Morning Snow

Well, the forecast is always changing and never right, but the picture doesn't lie. We got snow the other evening, and the yesterday morning this was the view out the bedroom window. It was gone by lunchtime, but beautiful while it lasted.

We had a moose visit to eat flowers right outside our bedroom window.

I startled him by opening the window...

...but he came back for more.

I love the little details... the yellow on the green, and the way the leaves are scattered near the house and grow denser toward the edge of the lawn.

A white flower, up close and personal.

A purple flower outside my window, with sunlight peeking through the clouds.

Contrasting stripes of trees... the birch and pine.

The birch trees have turned yellow, but not all the trees, as you can see by the green one here.

Can you believe this is the view out my window? The flowers are starting to die, but the trees are alive with color now. I try to keep my blinds open as much as possible.

I took too long to get into the house and back out w/the camera, so this was the best picture we could get... but these are our little moosies that keep visiting and eating up Jim's rhubarb [you can see the remains of it peeking out from behind the tree].

It was supposed to be a sweater for Josh, but ended up too short. Now it's Lynnell's. Not too shabby for a hand-made hoodie.

Standing just inside the front door...

...look to the right...

...and look to the left.

The living room from another angle.

What do you do with all that extra space? Make a sitting area with all the books!

Looking into the kitchen from the hall...

and the bar looks out into the dining area.

The bathroom from the hall...

and the inside of the bathroom.

Looking into the bedroom from the doorway...

The computer side of the bedroom.

Our first moose sighting. It's not a great picture b/c the flash went off, but he lost interested in the rhubarb right after this and we didn't have a chance to get a better shot. You take what you can get though.

The day after the rain washed the smoke away, I couldn't resist taking a picture of the mountains on the horizon... a horizon I hadn't seen in two weeks. Isn't it beautiful?

Josh's building is pretty much the only cute one on the whole base; his office is upstairs in this little homey looking building.

Our landlord's house. Can't wait till the snow falls and the Christmas lights are on.

Our living room window is the one you see downstairs just behind the flower bed.
